Gong Xi Fa Cai!
It’s been a hectic Lunar New Year this 2017 with it barely being a month after the New Year’s! Amidst the flurry of business activities we had in the month of January, we found some time to sit together as a family to celebrate the Year of the Rooster!
The 4th day of the Lunar New Year (“初四”) was an auspicious day this year with 9.38am being the best timing to signify the official reopening of business – so jot those numbers down if you are looking for some permutation ideas for your 4-D bets later on!
As an annual affair, C&M ushered in the new year with the tradition of rolling bright oranges into our offices to symbolize bringing in good fortune. This year, we are extremely happy to have a new addition to our ritual with our sister company in Indonesia doing the same too!
Thereafter, we adjourned to our Sales & Technical Centre / Warehouse facility to enjoy a spectacular Lion Dance performance which was done with much fanfare and gusto by the Tian Eng Lion Dance Troupe.
The slivers of orange peel and lettuce were scattered all over our front lawn to symbolize wealth and abundance for the year and in addition, we even had auspicious Chinese words meticulously pieced together with orange wedges on each of our work desks by the Lions! HUAT AH!!
Rounding off the celebrations, we took to Pan Pacific Hotel where we had lunch at Hai Tien Lo Restaurant and did a thunderous Lo Hei* together!
At C&M, we’re really proud to celebrate the cultural diversity we have among us. Although the Lunar New Year in Singapore is predominantly celebrated by the Chinese community, it was really gratifying to see everyone partaking in it with such joy and enthusiasm.
As a side note, with all the protectionism and fear mongering we see emanating from various societies, it is good to celebrate and continue the spirit of inclusiveness and above all, never to be walled up from one another based on race or religion.
And with that, the C&M family would like to wish everyone a Healthy, Prosperous and most importantly, Happy Year of the Rooster. HUAT AH!
*Lo Hei – Cantonese for ‘捞起’ – also know as the Prosperity Toss, is the tossing of Teochew-style raw fish salad whilst saying out loud auspicious hopes and dreams for the coming year.
